Website Design For J&R Landscapes

The Challenge

The main challenges of the existing website included:

• Limited customisation: Squarespace restricted the level of design flexibility available, making it harder to create a website that properly reflected the business and its services.
• Ongoing costs: The monthly subscription fees represented an ongoing expense, with limited control over the underlying website platform.
• Attracting higher-value customers: The business wanted to appeal to customers investing in more substantial landscaping and garden design projects, requiring a website that communicated quality and professionalism.
• Room for SEO improvement: The new website needed a stronger content structure and better on-page optimisation to help improve its visibility in relevant search results.

The Solution

The decision was made to move away from Squarespace and build the new website using WordPress.

Rather than relying on a traditional WordPress theme with unnecessary features, I built the website using Gutenberg blocks. This provided the flexibility to create a custom design while keeping the underlying build efficient and lightweight. It provides greater control over layouts and content without relying on a bulky theme or excessive plugins.

I worked on a new content structure to make it easier for potential customers to explore their services and few examples of recent work. J&R also invested in new photography further boost the professional appearance.

The Results

The new J&R Landscapes website provides a much more professional platform for promoting the business.

The updated design places greater emphasis on the quality of the company’s work, with dedicated service information, project photography and clear opportunities for potential customers to get in touch.

Moving to WordPress also gives the business greater control over its website, removing the restrictions of the previous platform and reducing reliance on an expensive monthly website subscription.

With a more efficient Gutenberg build, new hosting and initial on-page SEO optimisation in place, the website now provides a stronger foundation for future development and attracting new enquiries.
